The Science Behind Owning A Dog

The Science Behind Owning A Dog
  1. DOGS ARE GOOD FOR YOUR HEART HEALTH.

Having a dog can help you live longer.  A comprehensive review of studies published between 1950 and 2019 found that dog owners have a lower risk of death than non-dog owners.  There is some evidence to support the idea that dog owners have improved stress responses and lower blood pressure levels.

  1. DOGS CAN REDUCE STRESS

Your canine companion can provide comfort and ease your worries.  Numerous studies have shown that dogs and therapy dogs reduce stress and anxiety.

Stroking a familiar dog slows breathing and muscle tension, lowers blood pressure, and lowers the heart rate.

  1. YOU WILL MOVE MORE WHEN YOU ARE WITH DOGS.

There are a lot of walks out there.  A 2019 study found that dog owners were almost four times more likely to meet guidelines for daily physical activity than those who didn't own a dog.  People without pets walk almost 200 minutes more per week than dog owners.
